Barge Master Gangway the first to be approved using new DNV GL certification of gangways

07 July 2016

The design principles of the Barge Master Gangway are reviewed and have been approved in principle with DNV GL certification of offshore gangways for personnel transfer (DNVGL-ST-0358). Barge Master is the first to receive the approval for their gangway system. Next to personnel transfer the system is also approved as a lifting appliance according to the DNV Standard for Certification 2.22.

Rob Das, Service Responsible at DNV GL – Maritime, says about this collaboration ‘We have been working with Barge Master on this project from the draft version of the new code until the DNVGL-ST-0358 was released and applied to their product. Their comments on our draft version during the external hearing process contributed to the further improvement of the standard.’

I am very happy about the collaboration with DNV GL, and extremely proud the Barge Master Gangway is the first to receive the DNV GL approval’, according to Jorrit van Dommelen, R&D engineer at Barge Master.

Florian Teica and Zrinka Cizmek conducted the review as Approval Engineers at DNV GL. ‘We are excited to be part of an innovative project and be challenged to combine both standards for personnel transfer and lifting appliances. DNV GL’s vision on safety has been well-matched and implemented in Barge Master’s design. The next step will be the full certification following design approval, manufacturing survey and testing.’

The Barge Master Gangway is a high performance motion compensation system that enables safe transfer of personnel from a floating vessel to a fixed structure in waves up to 4.5m Hs. With its modular design, the gangway is configured fit for purpose. Several modules are available, ranging from a height adjustable pedestal to an integrated motion compensated lifting winch. The system is available both for purchase and rental.
